In 2011 the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will implement a single welfare to work programme aimed at supporting all unemployed people, including those out of work due to a health condition, move back into employment. The Work Programme will replace Flexible New Deal, Pathways to Work and unify a range of existing welfare to work support.
Employment for all is a major theme within the Nottinghamshire ESB's strategic plan- "Nottinghamshire- Working and Skilled 2010-2015". The ESB, which has led the delivery of the Nottinghamshire City Strategy since 2007, is committed to helping improve the prospect of sustainable employment across Nottinghamshire. At the same time tackling worklessness, reducing benefit dependency and improving the employability of local people run at the core of the ESB's purpose.
The ESB sees the Work Programme as a fundamental opportunity to develop an important and long term approach that can place the needs of businesses and local people at the centre of new welfare to work service delivery. The ESB believes that businesses, local partners and future Work Programme providers can effectively work together for the benefit of Nottinghamshire's working age population.
